I'd Rather be Packing. 01.01.2008 | personal

My schedule has been cleared for the next week and a half. All my emails and facebook messages and wall posts have been answered. My room has been cleaned and dusted. My dog has been fed and watered. My closet has been organized, first by colour and then by frequency of use. My shoes have been polished and now sit all shiny in ascending order of heel height.

Okay, so those last two are lies but thats on the to-do list for the month of May, I swear. I feel like I've been preparing to travel for the last week but I'm not going anywhere. Thankfully. I'm SO over packing--no more suitcases for me for another three weeks. Hmm, but when I think about what I've been preparing for, I'd actually rather just pack a suitcase. Tomorrow morning at nine o' clock in the morning I'll be drifting off to the count of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... in the dentist chair.

My wisdom teeth have been trying to come in for over two years now and giving me a bunch of trouble so we're going to get all four of those suckers outta there. I've known about this surgery for months but only found this tiny window of time from April 1 - 10th where I could afford to not work.

My mom bet me that I'd be back on the computer working away and answering emails by the second day--inside I secretly think she's right--I'm desperately hoping I'll have enough self-control to not work. My plan for the week is to eat sixty-five pints of Rice Dream Ice Cream (crazy good for non-dairy and non-soy eaters like me!), watch hopelessly romantic chick flicks (like P.S. I Love You for the fifth time) and stay in the same pair of pajamas and a hoodie for five days straight. It's gonna be fab.

P.S. Chick flick recommendations anyone? Share.

Here's a little sneakpeek of a session I had this morning of my eight-month-old cousin Caleb. More coming in the next few days if I'm feeling well enough to blog! :)

Mr. Jeffrey 01.01.2008 | personal

My family is a pet family: we've had dogs, a cat, two bunnies and two goldfish (killed within forty-eight hours... dang) and I remember at least three occasions where my mom picked me up from elementary school with a dog in the back. Nah, it wasn't our dog. Rather it was a dog (or in one case, two dogs!) that was found running around some side street nowhere near a home. We are pretty great at putting up "Found" posters, I must say.

Last year I found two bunnies (and I could tell they were obviously tame) in our backyard. I knew they must have been pets that escaped, so I spent about an hour chasing them around our yard, under trees, up hills, under piles of wood until I caught them (with the helpful temptation of a freshly washed carrot.) We kept those bunnies for three days while we printed out big posters and slapped them up within a three mile radius. I also repeatedly washed out the pee-covered laundry bin we had placed them in so they wouldn't get lost in our house. Dedication, right?!

Last year we had to put our nine-year-old dog Mandy, a yorkshire terrior-maltese-poodle mix, to sleep, leaving our family with 5 year old Taylor the labradoodle as our only dog. Small dogs, big dogs, I love them all. My mom swore she didn't want another dog, especially not another puppy--with all the training stages and what not. However, what did I find when my mom picked me up from the airport after my California trip two weeks ago? This little dude sitting in his cage in the back seat, ten weeks old. Oh Mr. Jeffrey... our lives have not been the same since we adopted you into our family.

We went to Victoria last weekend and brought the little guy along for the ride.

He LOVES to squish into small confined spaces. I have no idea how he got in here. That would be the reclined passenger seat on the left, my green purse below and above him? That's his big plastic cage. Hah! Sometimes when I'm sitting by him on my bed reading or something he'll snuggle right between my legs, or in between my hip and a pillow. He loves to be all cuddly.

I just can't stand it anymore! SO sweet.

Mmm, definitely a man's idea to put the five pound dog in the tree. Thanks Dad. ;)

Priorities: Curl, Blog, Pack 01.01.2008 | personal

I'm sitting down to write a blog post when in actuality, I should be packing. Again. However, before I sat down to write this post, I spent twenty minutes curling my hair. Even though I have to go out the door in 35 minutes, here are my priorities: curling my hair, blogging about nonsense and then packing. Twisted.

This time I'm headed down south a couple of hours to the American sister city of Vancouver: Seattle. I'm going down with my church's youth group as a youth leader-in-training to attend the annual Generations Church Conference hosted by The City Church. Our youth group has been going for the last three years, but I've only been once... three years ago. This year's theme is Embrace Grace and I'm so pumped for a weekend away full of awesome worship, lots of teaching and great times with some amazing teenagers!

I was attempting to get a blog post about the newest addition to our family, a multipoo named Jeffrey, written and posted today but that didn't happen. Here's a sneak peek of the cuteness to come.
