[B] Workshop 01.01.2008 | personal

If you haven't heard of Christopher Becker... it's about time you do. So, good thing you're reading this blog post. Becker is a crazy talented and very business-minded photographer out of beautiful Orange County, California. I remember reading his blog as a sixteen year old three years ago, always blown away by these gorgeous weddings he was shooting every weekend. Becker loves to give back to photographers in the industry and he does that through private workshops, 5-on-1 workshops and then group workshops sometimes! Vancouver was fortunate enough to have Becker fly in to teach two one-day workshops, back to back this past Wednesday and Thursday.

I jumped at the chance to learn from Becker and attended the Wednesday workshop at the Blue Olive studio downtown. Thanks for hosting, Miranda and Reilly! Also a big shout out to Tracey Heppner, who arranged all of Becker's travel arrangements and all the workshop details for both days. The day was spent meeting other photographers, learning from Becker's 15+ years of shooting weddings and being inspired to step up our businesses to the next level. We ended up with some great Mexican food in the evening. It was a long, but wonderful day!

Thanks to our models Geoff and Naomi Heith of Weddings in Motion.

Thanks to Laura Hana for the following picture! ;)

Beautiful Gastown at night.

Langley Family Portraits: Krausse Family 01.01.2008 | portraits

Melynn and Kris and Reuben and Elisabeth. They are such a wonderful little family. I've known this family before they were a family... back when they were just a couple. Melynn and Kris were newlywed youth leaders when Brandon & I started attending Southgate Youth about five years ago. I still remember the night they announced they were pregnant. And then when cute little Reuben came. Two years later came Elisabeth and oh how I love these kiddos! Melynn and Kris became the middle school youth pastors last Fall and every Friday night they are faithfully serving our youth group, two kids in tow behind them. We had a quick little shoot last Sunday afternoon at their beautiful house. Enjoy!

I love Reuben's glee and Elisabeth's confusion. Haha!

Reuben was stoked to play drums for me. I think I lost an eardrum on Sunday. That kid has some power in his forearms.

It wasn't the easiest thing to get these kids co-operating, but we did our best. Eyes lookin' off to the side and all.

I love this one:

Vancouver Engagement Photos: Stacy & Dane 01.01.2008 | engagements

Stacy & Dane have like each other since the age of sixteen (or was it seventeen? One of those!) These two spent their high school years liking each other but were never official until the summer after Grade 12. Their parents had a no-dating-in-high-school rule which I really respect. It was obviously a smart decision because two and a half years later... these two are now engaged! I first met Dane in a church I used to attend about ten years ago and met Stacy about four years ago when I started attending my current church--which Dane now attended too. However, it wasn't until these two decided to step into youth ministry together a few months ago that I really got to know them!

We met for our engagement session last week on a beautiful day. Seriously, beautiful! I looked up on the weather network and it was the same temperature as Palm Springs. In January. YEP. Mind you, Palm Springs is having terrible weather right now, but whatever. It was gorgeous and we felt blessed! Stacy brought a ton of clothes and instructed Dane to do the same. It was super fun to get to "style" this shoot with them together. I laughed so hard. Dane pretty much wore everything we told him to, even down to the shoe choice. He's scavengering around in the back seat of his car and comes up with five pairs of shoes, "What should I wear, girls?"

This was my first engagement session of 2010 and I feel like it's going to be a favourite of the year for sure. The weather, the clothing, the locations, the personality these two have. Such a joy to shoot. I also loved the reactions from Dane when he saw the polaroid pictures. "Woah! We look like one of those sweet indie couples!" Hahahaha! Well, Congratulations again you two. Super bummed I can't shoot your July 31st wedding (already booked!) but I know your whole wedding day will just be amazing. So excited to see God bless your relationship as husband and wife.
