Emma + Michael : Backyard Wedding

Michael and Emma were officially married in Seattle temple on July 18, but threw a big reception and a small ring ceremony for the next day: which I was there to capture. Their wedding was held in Michael’s parents backyard, a beautiful property in South Surrey. I don’t feel like I could accurately sum up the day in one short paragraph!

The weather was just perfect, some beautiful sunshine with a slight breeze. The ceremony, the portrait time, the speeches, the dinner, the dancing: it was all full of love; a whole lot of love! And a little goofiness. Emma and Michael are two of the goofiest people–and I love goofy. I don’t think I have seen a more affectionate groom than Michael to his bride. Emma is sweet and kind and shares my shoe fetish, which her dad claims goes back to the toddler years. Michael and Emma, I felt very welcomed and loved by your family and enjoyed witnessing your first day as a married couple. I hope you are both having a wonderful time in Oregon for your honeymoon!

The wedding had this beautiful, ‘garden party’ type theme:

Emma’s shoes and lace dress (did I mention she adores lace too? My kind of girl) — oh and check out the leopard print on the inside of the shoes!

A few bridal portraits before the ceremony.

I loved the lights they had hung across the ceremony site/dance floor for later; a great idea!

Love the vintage feel of these two.

I was just in love with this field! I found it last week when I was out location scouting and knew it would be perfect for them.

A fun party was waiting for them back at Michael’s parent’s place after portraits.

The speeches were filled with laughter and tears, I loved some of the expressions I caught.

Michael delivered the most beautiful toast to his bride at the end of the speeches: promising to always honor, cherish, respect, love and take care of her forever. It was very emotional and I think I saw a few tears in the house! Emma’s look here says it all.

Meet Maceo: the ringbearer! His dad carried him down the aisle during the ceremony and then carried him over to Michael’s best man to give the rings. Hah! He was just chilling on the grass eating some strawberries when I snuck up on him and caught these.

The first dance, to “God Blessed the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts.

At the end of the night, they planned to make a quick get-away and just start enjoying their vacation together. After a crowd of family and friends followed them to the front door it wasn’t that “quick” but after a few hugs they were on their way. Make sure you check out the slideshow to see the hilarious decorated car they drove off in.
