Engagement Session

Tofino Wedding Photographer

Early Friday morning, Randy and I hopped on the BC Ferries and drove across Vancouver Island to Tofino. We were so excited to be back in one of our favourite “cities” (if you can call Tofino a city!) for a weekend destination wedding. Friday evening, we were set to meet the bride and groom, Shannon and Robert, at the Ucluelet lighthouse near the Coast Guard station. Around 8 o’ clock in the evening, we started our session with the most beautiful light in one of the most gorgeous parts of this country!

It was our first time meeting Shannon and Robert, as they live in Alberta and had only booked me via email, based on a recommendation from Rebecca & Nick. (Who also had a Tofino destination wedding!) Meeting the two of them in Ucluelet the day before the wedding had us even more excited for the events to come.

Shannon and Robert met three years ago, when Shannon’s medical placement (she’s a doctor, specializing in treating infectious diseases) took her from B.C. to Alberta. Robert, who grew up in Ontario, had been stationed in Alberta for a handful of years, as part of the Canadian army. They met through a mutual friend and felt a genuine connection from their first date.

As Shannon remembers, “I was very hopeful about the meeting.” Unfortunately, the day after their first date, Robert had to leave for six weeks of military training. Communication was sparse due to the rigorousness of his schedule while away, but the few texts that did send back and forth were treasured by both of them. From the day he returned, Robert and Shannon were inseparable.

I’m really looking forward to sharing more about their wedding day with you later this week or next, but for now, I’d love to share their engagement photos from Ucluelet. Enjoy!

Ucluelet and Tofino have subtle differences between the landscapes. In Tofino, you’ll find more beaches, less rugged coastline and more greenery. In Ucluelet, lots of sharp edges, black rock and a more “dramatic” feel.
