Last week, my husband Randy and I were in Arizona with my parents and his mom, enjoying the hot hot weather (How do you Arizonians do it, by the way? Your late October is our hottest day in August) and enjoying quality time together. Whenever we have time off together, Randy and I love to ask the big questions. Why are we here? What is our purpose as a couple? How do we honour Jesus with our life and our decisions and our time and our finances?
We are chasing big ideas and big dreams.
Randy & I have a project under wraps that I’m really, really excited about – a project with the potential to raise a lot of money and give people an opportunity to be a part of something to “change the world.” We’ve been brainstorming and dreaming every chance we get. (More information will be available to you in the New Year.) When my friend Candace emailed me a book called You & Me Forever, the message resonated strongly with what’s stirring in our hearts.
Marriage is not about you.
One individual following Jesus who marries another individual following Jesus only to “settle down and play it safe” can’t be what life is about. Randy and I want our time and money to reflect Christ. I feel God encouraging us to live a life that’s different, a life that’s beyond the “status quo” in our culture.
This weekend, I asked myself, “What would happen if we followed the words of Jesus? Really followed them. Didn’t think, didn’t analyze, just did them.” Love Does things. When Jesus says in Luke 6:30, “Give to everyone who asks you” – what if we DID that. Every time. Even if it was something small?
Give to everyone who asks.
God says in Matthew 6 we can’t serve both God and money or stuff or ______. Fill in the blank. I want to stop thinking about my time, my clothes, my house, my life and start thinking about what God wants us to do with all of those things.
I want to start living life this simply.
Will you join me?
