Three years ago, Doris went out for dinner one evening with a group of her girlfriends, along with one of her friend’s fiancé. He offered to take a photograph of the four girls together and unbeknownst to Doris, he texted the photo to his friend Jimmy. Within an hour or so, Jimmy dropped by the restaurant claiming he happened to be passing by. Doris had never heard her friends mention Jimmy but was intrigued by this new guy.

After a couple of drinks, Jimmy made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere… perhaps the “I was just dropping by” wasn’t a drop-by at all. For a few months after their initial meeting, Jimmy tried his best to get Doris to date him but she kept turning him down. When finally she conceded, “Sure, let’s grab dinner,” he thought she was joking! And didn’t show up! When she texted, he quickly drove over and their first date began. ;)

On Tuesday evening, I met Doris & Jimmy on Granville Island for their engagement session. The city of Vancouver is in a crazy heatwave right now, with temperatures at or above 30 degrees Celsius for a couple weeks now… so it was the BEST gift to receive a venti iced green tea from Starbucks when our shoot began. Doris & Jimmy are so kind! I loved spending time with them creating beautiful engagement photos they can treasure for years to come. Also this session took place on the third anniversary of their first meeting! I love that!

We found shade as often as we could, escaping the crowds and opting for a side boardwalk away from the tourist spots.

After Granville Island, we took the Aquabus, a small passenger ferry, across the water to Yaletown for more photographs.

The light was fabulous.
