cowichan bay wedding: erika+malcolm II

now that the bride has gotten ready and the couple has had their “first look,” let’s see ’em get married! erika & malcolm’s wedding in bird’s eye cove… part II. here goes! the wedding ceremony took place at four o’ clock in the afternoon out on the lawn just steps down from the farmhouse. erika’s cousin recited “i carry your heart with me” by e.e. cummings before the processional began. the wedding party walked down the aisle arm in arm to matthew barber’s “and you give.” (& we all know how much i love that song.) i pretty much died with happiness when it began. brilliant.

their ceremony was full of beautiful vows and prayer as the summer sun beat down upon all of our sweaty backs. ;) the walking back down the aisle together as husband and wife moment was probably my favourite. as you can see in the photos below, they kinda stopped, then started again, waiting for the music… and it was cute and funny. after the ceremony erika started hugging all her girlfriends and saying hello to all her guests and she couldn’t stop the tears. no tears during the ceremony but it was free-flowin’ afterwards. loved it.

the wonderful thing about doing a first look and all the bridal party + couples portraits beforehand is that after the ceremony we probably spent five minutes taking family photos and then it was onto the party. erika & malcolm had a full hour to mingle with guests before their dinner was served. & i had time to visit detail heaven, photographing the reception area as well as the barn for the dance party. the reception speeches were full of laughter and fun… but i never expected anything less of erika & malcolm’s friends and family. ;) fun people tend to attract fun people.

final little note i have to include before i sign off on this post. when i got erika’s email telling me that malcolm had proposed and they were planning a summer 2010 wedding she asked me my availability. i had made it fairly known on my blog that i was fully, fully booked for summer 2010. she told me all about her plans and i knew i needed to be there. i emailed back and said that i literally had ONE date the ENTIRE summer months (may to september) that i could shoot her wedding. august 14th. she emailed back, “guess we’re gettin’ married on august 14!” — now that’s dedication. for that, erika & malcolm, i thank you, i thank you SO much. so glad the Lord brought you two into my life. blessings on youuuu!
