I have known the bride, Alex, since she was in high school and we met through our church youth group where I was a leader. For this reason (and many others!) Alex and Matt’s wedding day was incredibly special to be a part of. Alex and Matt have been dating since her last year of high school and have a beautiful story. I literally have memories of Alex and I walking the trails in Fort Langley talking about some of the challenges her and Matt were facing in their young relationship.
After high school, Alex decided to pursue a degree in Alberta, where she was offered a scholarship for hockey. (Both her and Matt are incredible hockey players and–I’m quite sure this is correct–it’s how they originally met! Alex has played goalie on a men’s team for years.) Alex and Matt went their separate ways for over a year, both geographically, and in their relationship. They decided to call it off, set one another free and allow each other to grow as individuals.
When Alex was home from school for a summer, a relationship was rekindled and they took it slow – not jumping right back into what ‘used to be’ for two years, but slowly pursuing one another and God in their dating relationship! It’s such an amazing story and I believe shows so much of the amazing wisdom Alex has at the age of twenty-two.
Matt and Alex are incredibly sweet, kind, soft-hearted people. They truly care about the people around them, seek to serve the Lord with their whole hearts and I know they are going to build a beautiful marriage to show the gospel to even more people. Thank you for having me as your photographer, you two!

Alex + Matt were so excited but when Alex went to kiss Matt, he said, “We have to wait! Until the ceremony! Will be so good!” And Alex was just laughing at him. We both agreed: “That’s a cute idea, Matt… but all your portraits are before the ceremony. So you guys have to kiss now.”
They may look ‘cool’ in this photo, but it was just over 30 degrees and all of us had some serious sweating going on…
I loved the set up at Krause Berry Farms for weddings! I had never done a wedding here before, right in my own city of Langley. (Most of my weddings seem to be in the city of Vancouver.) Would love to shoot here more.
Gorgeous arch by Floralista. So talented!
Gorgeous cake by Super Sheep Sweets!
Alex’s parents speech was the sweetest. They have an amazing testimony through their marriage! They had Alex together when they were teenagers… and decided to stay together. They grew up together, Francine figured out how to raise Alex with the help of her mom, aunts and so many other family members. About ten years later, Francine and Ryan had three more children together. You could see so much joy and awe on Francine’s face throughout the day. So full of pride and love, like her eyes were saying, “We did this. I can’t believe we actually did it.” So much to admire about this family!
If you can give me five minutes of your reception, you may just get sunset portraits like these!
All the best to you two, Alex + Matt! I hope to run into you at church soon!
