A Nike Family
I adore marketing and advertising. The problem is, I find commercials, advertisements, billboards and radio ads boring and annoying… for the most part. So when I find a smart, inspiring, thought-provoking ad campaign, it makes me excited. That’s weird, right? To be excited about ads? I’m serious. When I’m flipping magazine pages I’ll read an ad, stop and stare at it, read it again, have a moment of jealousy wishing I was the marketing genius who came up with the idea, and then rip it out to keep it. I also adore smart companies.
Generally, ad campaigns set out to “create a need” for a certain product in the minds of consumers. I think the advertising we are bombarded on every corner with, truly influences our purchasing decisions: sub-consciously through this mysterious “need” we feel to buy. However, smart ad campaigns? I often point-out (or kinda joke!) that I buy certain brands consciously on their branding alone. I’m not ashamed to admit it.
Take Nike for example. I am very brand-loyal to their company. I’m constantly impressed by their ad campaigns, and the new material they are inventing season after season. This campaign was from a while ago, but it was for Nike Women. I fell in love with the bold splashes of colour against the black and white photos. Every ad (I think there are six in total) featured a different part of a woman’s body. Strong, spirited, capable. They inspire. Just for fun, read them here: Butt, Thighs, Shoulders, Knees, Hips and Legs below:

Because of advertisements like these, almost all of my athletic gear is Nike. I’ve been counting on Nike for my running shoes for the past couple of years now and I just picked up a new pair yesterday at the outlet malls in Seattle. I went for my first run in my new shoes this morning! I’m gathering quite a collection of old Nikes! Don’t they look cute together? Looking forward to all the miles I’m going to log wearing my new ones (the lime green ones!)

Neat post! I really like that Nike ad, and find Lulu Lemon to be similiar to it, which I love as well. I’m totally brand loyal too though, haha, and in fact probably an advertisers dream. For me it’s Nokia, and the 8800 phone series. They’re about a hair away from $1600 of my dollars. Okay, stop talking – I don’t need it. I don’t need it.
In the past it has been all Adidas for me. I need a new pair though so it will all be up to which fit the best. Do you get the Nike + iPod shoes?
Oh my goodness…I hadn’t ever seen those ads, but seriously, they ARE awesome. I LOVE the butt one….so funny. Great ideas, great writing, and great product too! Love the new green ones. Do you ever throw away the old ones?? :)
It is so true that we subconsciously stick to one brand! I am also a loyal Nike consumer, their running shoes ROCK!
Yes!! I used to read these ads and then I forgot all about them but now I get to enjoy them all over again! My fave is the butt one :)
Ahaha now with most Nike shoes you can actually customize the design yourself with their online store. Pick your own colors and tags, and even have random sayings put into the bottom of the shoes (your name or something).
