Aujourd’hui, je vais parler en francais

Sep 26

We’ve only been away on vacation in Montreal less than 48 hours and I’m already hopelessly jealous of people who can speak the French language. I can’t get over it. Two languages. Two forms of communication. They get to CHOOSE how they want to communicate. Shall I “parlez a vous en Francais aujourd’hui?” or shall I “talk to you in English today?” Not fair. I want to learn. Unfortunately as a Vancouverite, despite the fact that French is one of Canada’s official languages–I never hear the language. On the West Coast, we’re too far away from Quebec or any of the federal parliament buildings where French is spoken as often as English.

(Side note: I’m typing this on my laptop while we’re trying to make our way out of Montreal onto the highway to head to upstate NY. My brain is being shaken by all the sudden twists and turns and the occasional passionate-bashing-of-the-GPS-lady by my father. So much going on, it’s a wonder I can write at all.)

We spent the day downtown yesterday and it was fabulous. I love this city. I love cities. I love fashion in cities. Coffee shops in cities. I love my brown riding boots that I recently got fixed and now plan to wear obsessively all Fall and Winter. They make any outfit sixty-three times better. It’s a fact. I love Autumn. Autumn in Quebec is gorrrrrrgeous. Magical even. The more I see the world, the more I fall in love with Jesus, who created it all. Incredible.

My passion for photography started on a Boston/Montreal East-Coast trip three years ago. Sixteen year old me and my little Canon Rebel XT. I was in love with photography and travel and prayed I’d get to do this for the rest of my life. It’s neat to have visited Boston last week, and now be back in Montreal. It all comes full-circle. Neat to be back. I’m enjoying shooting travel images lately:

I take photos. So does my mother. Just with a different camera. ;) Yesterday: through her eyes.
