Portrait Sessions

pitt lake portraits: amanda & james

in december, i received the sweetest email from a guy named james. he was in search for the perfect christmas gift for his girlfriend amanda. after watching amanda read my blog for hours at a time, he thought he knew just the thing: a gift certificate for a portrait session together. they live near the city, but james commuted two hours via public transit all the way out to my studio one day to pick up the gift card. that’s dedication. this past week i was delighted to finally meet the blog reader named amanda + photograph these two in one of the most beautiful settings within an hour of my house. i was in heaven driving out to pitt lake in pitt meadows.

amanda and james have such a fun story. they met online three years ago: james is from new zealand, amanda from here. they have been online friends until james decided to finally fly out and meet this girl this past summer. their first date was at the annual vancouver celebration of light fireworks… on august 1, my birthday! not that that’s relevant to this story. on their first date, they sat on the blanket you see in this photoshoot, which is amanda’s grandmothers. or as amanda corrected herself, they actually held it above their heads as the rain came down. typical vancouver weather! james picked up his new zealandian [made up that word just now] life and moved here to vancouver in november to start a new life with amanda. pleasure to meet you two–thanks for enduring the ridiculously cold, windy weather. that part wasn’t fun. ;)

I wish I could create such images. Very beautiful! Do you think the shooting may be born with it or learn from books?
