Out of money with a bleeding nose.
There are so many things I want to blog about… and only so many days in the week and time in the day to blog about ‘em! Haha. Well, seeing as you all enjoyed my Weird Magnet story so much… here’s another “day in the life of Jamie Delaine” story. Yesterday my friends Candace and Shauneille and I drove down the I-5 to Bellingham, WA. One of my favourite little random cities in the Northwest: Fort Langley, Port Moody, Bellingham. I love it. We arranged to meet at 11:40 at a Starbucks and drive down together. My brother bursts into my room at 11:25 with my iPhone and throws it on my bed, “Jamie. You’re missing a thousand million phone calls and texts. Why don’t you keep your freakin phone on you.” Gosh. Sorry.
Turns out all the texts were from Candace and Shauneille saying they are early. They’re never early. Lame. So I rush out the door and I get there at the original time I said I’d be there. ;) Our ultimate destination in mind for the day was Buffalo Exchange: one of the coolest stores around. You can bring in your clothes and they’ll buy ‘em from you and you can use the credit to buy more clothes! Thrifty hey? So, I had two massive tote bags full of stuff in my trunk already. I get to Starbucks to see Shauneille heaving a massive black garbage bag to my car. More like kicking it along with both of her feet. Then there’s Candace with a massive pink argyle suitcase rolling that to my car. It looked like we were going on a road trip and Shauneille couldn’t afford luggage. HAHA. I already love the day. So we stuff that in the car.
We drive an hour to Bellingham. By this point, Shauneille is whining every thirty seconds about how badly she needs to pee. And she’s making little noises. Or big noises. And I’m trying to navigate the city and all its crazy one-way streets. Almost turned down a few of them, too. (Hey, almost turning down a one-way is NOTHING when you HAVE turned down a one-way. Okay, folks?) Finally I stop in the street and yell, JUST RUN TO THAT COFFEESHOP THEY’LL HAVE A BATHROOM. I park and walk to the meter only to realize I freakin’ left my credit card at home. And I have no US cash. And my Canadian debit card doesn’t work in the States. GAH.
After the bathroom break we drive around looking for an ATM. Of course we have to park each time and walk a couple of blocks. I find one. Stand in line behind a lady that takes foreverrrr. Her phone also happens to be ringing the whole time and some awful R&B song is playing. I try my debit card and attempt to take out $100. “Insufficient funds.” LIES. Gahh. So I try another bank. Wait in line foreverrrrr in the cold. Doesn’t work. EVENTUALLY I find an ATM that works. I manage to take out $60 US. Now we’re back to finding Buffalo Exchange. However, we only have $60 cash… no coins and no credit card so we can’t use any parking lots — we find free parking three blocks away from Buffalo Exchange, but with our FOUR bags between us we can’t haul those all the way.
I drive by the store and we decide (well, I decided. Usually I decide things in groups. I need to work on that) Shauneille will stand on the sidewalk with our bags until we park and walk back. We jump out and we’re running around the car Chinese-Fire-Drill style grabbing bags and heaving them out. We’re blocking traffic and yelling and laughing and Shauneille yells, “AH! NOSE BLEED NOSE BLEED NOSE BLEED!” and starts dancing around on one leg with her nose in the air. She’s digging for a kleenex and using her legs to keep the four bags upright. “YOU GUYS!!! You can’t leave me here with a nose bleed and four bags on the sidewalk. I look like A HOBO!!!!” I say, “Shauneille. You can rock it. No worries” as I run back to the drivers seat and shift into drive. Candace ends up staying with her. She has more compassion. Hahaha. It was the most hilarious sight to walk back from our (free) parking spot a few blocks away and see the two girls standing on the sidewalk, amidst suitcases and bags. Like hobos. With a nosebleed.

I love the sunglasses TOO much. I love your “should I blog about this? Would it be interesting? Or boring?”. The truth is, I think if you blog it, and take pictures of it, people will eat it up. Cause people eat you up.
Love thrift stores, so please share your finds!
Also are all of you wearing the same pair of sunglasses? Too cute :)
@Christa – hah, yeah we are! Candace + Shauneille bought the same pair and I just borrowed theirs for a picture. ;) @Larissa – HAHAHAHA. You crack me up. So much. @Everyone: I’ll work on a post about what I’ve found! Now I feel pressure to have it be amazing or something… hehe! It’s mainly jewelery where I find scores.

But, just to put on a little more pressure in case you can’t find the time, or you’re just not sure it’ll be good enough, yes, yes, yes, a millioin times YES! You should totally blog about your thrift finds.
