i’ve said it before on my blog and i’ll certainly say it again. one of my favourite ways to experience a new city is to photograph someone in it. once kristen and i nailed down our travel itinerary, i was off in search of belfast/dublin folks to photograph. through my friends jason and rachael, i received roslynn’s name–roslynn is jason’s sister-in-law, married to his brother. it should also be noted that my best friends leanne [and sam] come into the mix, as sam is rachel’s brother. connections all over.
roslynn and her husband paul are expecting their first child in only a few week’s time and kristen and i offered to photograph some maternity photos for her. but all three of us agreed, no cheese. in general, i cannot stand pregnancy photos–my philosophy is, treat it like a normal portrait or couples session but you happen to be pregnant. ;) roslynn was on board. we had the best time with roslynn and her mom friday morning. it’s super refreshing to connect with someone related to “your people” back home while traveling, especially somewhere so-called “foreign” and far away like europe. also, being driven around in a car and not taking a bus or a train was amazing, kristen and i loved it.
roslynn and her husband both grew up in canada [manitoba and BC, respectively] and met while studying at trinity western university in langley. both accomplished athletes, paul’s impressive soccer skills was what attracted roslynn–and the two being paired up as partners in one semester’s dance class also helped. ;) in their four years of marriage, paul and roslynn have lived all over the world, including south africa. ten months ago, life had them moving to ireland to fill two positions serving with athletes in action.
belfast has a beautiful nature reserve right near the city called lagan valley park, which none of us had actually been to, but roslynn had heard about. it was the perfect background for our session together. we loved having roslynn in front of our cameras and especially love the images we captured together. enjoy!
