a little less than two years ago i went to the annual wppi conference in las vegas. i was eighteen years old, a few months out of high school, trying to figure out this massive photography industry. through my friend sarah, i heard of a group of young girls (aged seventeen to twenty) who were looking for another roommate & also coming to wppi for the first time that year. christi ann was one of these girls. it was such an incredible week because the other girls we stayed with were as follows: abigail smith, kristen leigh, cait butt. all friends of mine across the continent to this day.

bethany is one of my dear friends. we have a funny little story. she was an intern at southgate church when i was in youth there. she hails from the town of edmonton, alberta (represent! she’ll defend her oilers every chance she gets,) but moved to BC to intern for a year after graduation. she was the “leader in training” in my cell group when i was about fifteen or something. really didn’t know her. she moves back to edmonton, then moves back to BC a few years later. we start leading youth together. we soon realize we both love all the same artsy, random, quirky, musical, fashionable things. we also both love youth, LOVE the local church, have a passion for the arts and a passion for life. i really enjoy coffee dates with this beautiful girl and last week we threw in a photoshoot.

oh look. tim hortons! that’s where we met. tess smiled, her right hand pressed into adam’s left as we walked down denman street during their engagement session. well, not that one, specifically. a different one… but still a tim hortons. tess and adam played for the same volleyball club during high school but that’s not exactly how they met. tess admits to seeing adam at volleyball tournaments and occasionally facebook stalking the boy. officially, they met, one evening after youth church in a group of friends at tim hortons. they started chatting about their schools: tess went to the same christian high school as i, adam attended another christian school in the area. both in their graduating year, tess and adam soon discovered a shared hatred of geography 12 and chatted the rest of the evening. turns out that class was good for something, after all! they became friends and started dating quite a few months later. their relationship was “built on a very solid friendship.” i like that.

kelly and zac came across my work through a recommendation from their wedding venue, the vancouver club. i love receiving referrals! two things. one, a referral from a person or a venue i love usually means i’m going to love the client and we’ll get along great. two, i always feel good inside when somebody likes and trusts my work enough to refer me to somebody they know. i was emailing back and forth with these two for a few weeks; we searched to find a date that we could meet up for a meeting–crazy schedules sometimes! we finally picked a day for them to come out to my fort langley studio and kelly emailed: zac & i were thinking, we want you to be our photographer. so can we have a quick meeting and then just do our engagement photos right away?
