i like to do a recap of each year as it passes. i think it’s a nice way to reminiscence: i’m all about the old photographs of family & friends. plus, after three years [2008, 2009, 2010] of recaps it feels wrong to leave 2011 out. this year was a defining one for me. every month brought a wave of change and through the change, a challenge to grab ahold of the opportunity to grow.

jess janz was how i survived high school. we became friends in grade 10 and although she graduated a year early [meaning i was left alone for the last year, ha!] — we were kindred spirits. hours were spent laying on the floor of her parent’s family room, staring up at the ceiling, making lists of things we wanted to accomplish & places we wanted to see in our life. i loved those times. fifteen year old girls dreaming. always a treat to see this girl, as she’s now moved to toronto and only comes “home” to langley once or twice a year. she’s a writer, she’s a singer: she’s an incredible artist. enjoy.

i have a friend named laura marchbanks — who i met almost three years ago at a photography workshop in california. a few months later, i came for a visit to seattle and stayed with her & her boyfriend billy. i always love hanging out with laura + she’s second shot with me twice. always a blast. in 2010, her & billy got engaged & i was honoured to attend their beauuuutiful wedding in seattle. it was so fun to photograph laura’s maternity portraits yesterday afternoon. she’s just the cutest: can’t wait to meet her baby boy brady when he’s born in february! :)
