My best friends tend to appear on my blog often. That’s just how it goes when you have a blog about your life and your friends are a big part of your life. I photographed my friends Jason & Kelsey “just because” last Fall, I photographed Jason & Kelsey when they found out their baby was a boy, photographed Jason & Kelsey as we waited for that baby boy to arrive, and photographed their baby boy, Jude, when he DID arrive!

When booking flights to Maryland for Kristen’s August 9th wedding, I toyed with the idea of adding Montreal to my travel itinerary. I tend to make quick decisions and tweeted/facebooked about my Montreal availability. [I had previously photographed: Kim & Dave, The Fulton Family, Kandise & Andre, Scott & Mari in Montreal… and Melissa in Quebec City. I like shooting in Quebec.] Laura emailed me the very next day about an engagement shoot. Unfortunately, that was the same day I decided travelling in the midst of wedding season [beyond Baltimore for Kristen’s wedding] was a stupid idea. Sometimes I have stupid ideas in wedding season, completely ignorant of a thing called “rest.” Laura was disappointed but understood.

750 unfiltered, private, words a day. I was enticed by the challenge. I love independent goals. I like accomplishing things only to prove to myself I can. Running a half marathon this year was one of those challenges. Crossing that 21.1km finish line was a great feeling. But writing, writing means much more to me than running. I’ve never pictured “Jamie Delaine: Runner” as a chapter in my biography someday but I have pictured “Jamie Delaine: Writer.” If I spent months training as a runner, how much more should I be training as a writer?

Awkward moments are better when you can share them. Don’t believe me? Would you rather trip and fall while walking alone on a crowded street? Or trip and fall while walking with your friend on a crowded street? The second, right? Because you can laugh about it and quickly find a new street.
