Our Love Story
Christmas this year was unlike any year before, my first and only dating Christmas and our first engaged Christmas, all wrapped into one. It was awesome to share our family traditions with Randy and also visit his family on Vancouver Island. Christmas Eve has always been spent at Lyla and Steve’s house. We have dinner (it’s different every year! sometimes ham? sometimes chinese food? no tradition there), play games, open our presents to one another. On Christmas morning, Randy came over early and we had breakfast together, just the five of us (the four in my family + Randy.) We drew names for our immediate family and enjoyed watching each other open presents.
With a short engagement, there were a few tasks I needed to be on right away. Inviting my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids was one of those tasks! I had seen a few different ideas online and many were crazy-creative and over-the-top elaborate. My wedding planning style thus far has been “I want it to be pretty, and I don’t want to “settle” but I also don’t want to exhaust myself over little details no one will notice.” I was really happy with how this project turned out.
Jaimee and I have known each other for a few years through church. We became closer friends about a year ago through two different February day trips to Seattle that Randy organized and planned. (Before we were dating, look-ee at that!) Throughout the year, we’ve had a lot of hangouts and have been able to connect even more recently which has been incredible. Jaimee started dating another friend of mine, James, in August. James and I also met through church, however a couple years ago he moved from Langley to Calgary and works at a church there. These two have been dating long-distance since August and have been back and forth between Calgary and Langley.
I met Allison & Patrick a few weeks after they had booked me via email for their wedding photography. I was on my way home from an engagement session at UBC and I quickly stopped by the Starbucks we had planned to meet at. I noticed a guy sitting at a table near me, but there was no “Allison” with him and he had textbooks all over the table. Didn’t think anything of it, as I sat there and started to cull through the session I had just come from shooting. A half hour later, Allison arrives (on time! I was early…) and after 5 minutes they look over. “Jamie?” HA! HI! (We were literally sitting 4 feet apart.) I slid my chair over and we started chatting about their August 9th wedding day.
