cecil green park house wedding: sarah&nick

it is special to see how well sarah & nick “fit” together. from their shared passions of medicine [they are both doctors!] and endurance sports [nick proposed to sarah a few steps from finishing his first ironman! and sarah run marathons!] — their interests line up perfectly. during the speeches, someone mentioned how sarah is the calm to nick’s extreme. but on the other hand, i could see how nick would be the calm to sarah’s extreme. her extreme just happens to be lists, goals & ambitious projects and not ironmans. ;) it was very sweet to hear nick talking to sarah throughout the day and assuring her things were going smoothly — and everything would work out fine!

sarah has a heart for other people. she is constantly thinking about the feelings of others and wants to make people feel at home around her. their ceremony at st. helen’s anglican church and reception at cecil green park house UBC were both under one hundred people — and had a “family” celebration feel. there was plenty of time for the bride and groom to socialize with guests during cocktail hour on the back porch as the sun set and an endless supply of drinks, food and dessert! i appreciated both nick & sarah’s desire to spend time with their guests — and the day truly felt like a celebration rather than a production.

many of their guests were from out of town, so the day before their sunday wedding, nick and sarah planned an “amazing race” tour of vancouver that started with a morning of yoga in the park — incorporating another one of their loves! sarah and her bridesmaids are in a knitting group together and LOVE all things yarn-related. sarah surprised the girls with hand-made shawls she had been knitting for months as thank you gifts, and we took portraits inside urban yarns. the wedding favours were handmade quinoa ginger molasses cookies — and sarah even made gluten free ones for me. the sweetest.

nick & sarah, it was a pleasure! thank you for having me! and a HUGE thank you to jayleen and her assistant from dreamgroup productions. amazing help and a blast to work with.

I knew I was going to love this wedding as soon as I saw these girls photographed inside a yarn shop (and bonus props to Sarah for creating all those beautiful LACE shawls — lace is so hard to work with as a knitter, I’m majorly impressed–and the shawl she’s wearing in her wedding photos? GORGEOUS!)

BEAUTIFUL wedding, Jamie. That shot of them on the steps in the lavender stopped me in my tracks.

And if Sarah’s Nick is a tenth as sweet as the Nick in my life, she’ll be blessed in marriage beyond her wildest dreams :)
