Grouse Mountain Wedding : Nicole & Jason

I was so afraid we were going to be covered in rain last Sunday. Normally, this wouldn’t bother me, because generally I adore the rain, but in the case of Sunday, September 21, rain was the last thing I wanted for Jason and Nicole’s wedding day! The forecast called for light rain on Saturday and heavy heavy rain on Sunday. Oh great. I immediately went into action, scouting locations that we could snag some great shots in regardless of a downpour. Saturday came and so did the heavy rains. I prayed that the skies would run out of rain for Sunday after using it all up on Saturday! And that is exactly what happened! SO happy!!

This is a little known Jamie Delaine fact: I have never had it rain on a wedding day. Out of the ten weddings I have photographed this year, zero rain. Zero rain! In Vancouver! That’s unheard of! I guess I’m just lucky. I was joking with a bride at my last meeting (whose wedding is in April, a very rainy month) that we’ll see how long this streak of mine can keep going.

Nicole and Jason are two of the sweetest, kindest people in the world. They are so fun to talk to, and just put everybody around them at ease. They eloped in October 2007 and decided to plan their ‘wedding’ for September 2008. It was such an honor to be a part of their day; I love how laid-back and casual it was, but as the same time, just a wonderful celebration of their re-commitment to one another.

As I mentioned in their engagement session post, Nicole is also Dean’s (of Dean+Tamara) sister; it was such a blast to get to be a part of yet another celebration in their lives. I saw so many familiar faces and Dean was one of Jason’s groomsmen! So fun. Their ceremony was at the picturesque Milner Chapel in Langley with an evening reception way up at the ‘Peak of Vancouver’ Grouse Mountain.

Love the vibrant colors in Nicole’s bouquet!

Nicole’s sister Stacey and mom Sherry helping her into her gown.

Classic bridal portrait outside the getting ready location.

These two cute little kids ran outside after us and made sure they got a photo of their own!

SO adorable, Nicole!

A great fisheye shot of the church, thanks to my second shooter Melody Davis!

Loved the bubbles they had outside; such a cool detail.

Melody snagged this shot: isn’t the flare awesome? So pretty!

Ahh they are too cute!!

Finishing up with a beautiful reception on the top of the mountain!

During a break Melody and I had we were taking a few self-portraits for fun! I love to get some photos of my second shooter and I whenever I remember; just fun memories of the work day. This cracks me up! The photo on the right was when I was holding the camera out, the photo on the left is when Melody finally took over. You see…I’m 5″2 with short arms, and Melody is 5″9 with not-so-short arms. Perfect for self-portraits if you ask me!

Thanks again Nicole+Jason!

Hi Jamie,A couple interesting things here! First of all, the Mom of the bride (mom Sherry helping her into her gown) as soon as I saw her face, and her smile in the photo…I could hear her laughter, and her voice from atleast a decade ago. I *think* she used to work at the White Spot in Richmond were my husband Cliff and I met, and got engaged way back in 1996/97. Even Cliff recognized her! And, another funny thing to note, I actually went to Starbucks after a run in the rain on Wednesday night (with Cliff LOL) and there was your second shooter Melody sitting with clients/potential clients. We were not sure what she was there for at the time (now we know LOL) and I remarked to Cliff how beautiful she was. And now, seeing how very talented she is! Her smile is beautiful.Anyways, I just had to share with you! PS What a beautiful wedding! Great job! I love that church! I want my kids to get married there one day!
