Backyard Vancouver Wedding

I have been looking forward to Ericka and Matt’s wedding day since the day I met them for their engagement session this past winter. This is truly what I love about my job; getting to meet couples, really fall in love with their love story and their wedding plans and be there when the plans actually come to life! It’s the coolest.

Saturday, July 25th arrived and Ericka started the day off with a yoga class, before hair and makeup back in her hotel suite with her mom and sister-in-law. I loved the small group of women in the morning, I could tell how close they all are and the bond they share! Meanwhile, Matt prepared for the day at his family’s home in Kitsilano, where their backyard garden ceremony would take place that afternoon.

The garden was abuzz with activity–laughs, hugs and conversation–a few minutes before the bride arrived. Matt’s parents home was absolutely stunning – white siding, blue front door, meticulously landscaped backyard full of the most beautiful flowers. His mom truly has a gardening gift! I loved the sentiment of getting married on their property. Meant so much.

Ericka walked down the aisle by herself, smiling ear to ear in her signature way, and Matt left his place at the front to come meet her and guide her towards the alter. They exchanged their own vows, rings and shared more than one first kiss after the pronouncement! ;) I loved so much about their wedding day – but particularly the time Ericka and Matt carved out to spend with their family and friends after the ceremony. The laid-back schedule and small guest list allowed a full hour of time to mingle, eat delicious appetizers, drink champagne and enjoy saying hello to everyone who came.

Portraits were at Jericho Beach just behind the Sailing Club, a spot they love to frequent when they are in town from Toronto (where they live)  visiting Matt’s family in Vancouver. We spent a half hour capturing fun, relaxed wedding portraits before pausing for ten minutes before the reception for Ericka and Matt to grab a beer on their favourite restaurant deck. I loved that. Such a fun memory.

The reception at Provence Grill shared the same fun vibe as the ceremony did, with all of the guests meeting one another and sharing good conversation, food and wine – three things I know are very important to E&M. I feel like I smiled the whole day through, because I seriously had such a good time watching Ericka and Matt’s love.

As both of their vows to one another proclaimed… they’ve found a “once in a lifetime love.”
