Gabriola Island Wedding Photos

This wedding is so special to me for a few reasons! Reason #1) Maria has been a long-time blog reader of mine… something ridiculous like for six years. When she emailed me to share she was engaged and ready to book me for her wedding on her ‘home island’ of Gabriola Island, BC, I was thrilled. (That’s Reason #2, I love destination weddings in B.C… like these weddings in Tofino, Penticton and Kelowna.) A few months ago, in December, I met Maria and her fiance Tim for the first time at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver for their engagement session. Reason #3) They are an amazing couple and I had so much fun with them and it made me even more excited for their wedding day!

My friend Taliah and I arrived at Dragon’s Lodge on Gabriola Island Friday evening and was greeted by Maria and Tim. Many of their family and bridal party members were staying at the lodge and it was so neat to see everyone together, setting up the space for tomorrow. Saturday morning, many of Maria and Tim’s friends enjoyed the island and brought breakfast or coffee back to the lodge, sitting on the deck enjoying the sun. (Yes! It was SO sunny! After a week of rain!)

Tim and Maria weren’t very traditional and I loved that. Maria was started to get ready and Tim came by the room to grab a bag he forgot… only an hour or so before the ceremony, haha! It was so easy to see the excitement and total peace over both of their lives about this day!

Maria and Tim’s ceremony was at the back of the property, overlooking the calm ocean and the rich green forest surrounding much of the island. Both wrote their own vows and shared their promises as friends and family looked on. The weather was cold, but bearable, and we were so thrilled with the cloud cover! We walked all throughout the area capturing portraits of the bridal party and lots of time with only Maria and Tim, of course.

The reception space was beautiful. I loved all of Maria’s vintage/antique details and how they complemented the beautiful floors and wood beams in the space. I have to say, my favourite part of Dragon’s Lodge has to be the large windows on almost all sides – I don’t think you could have a more beautiful view for your guests during dinner.

Maria and Tim, thank you for your incredible hospitality to us! We felt so taken care of, so welcomed and loved… and we were working not guests! ;) It truly speaks to the character of both of you and I’m so excited you’re starting this amazing journey and a beautiful life together. Enjoy your wedding photos!
