Winter Engagement Session: Chanel & Sam

December 15, 2012

Chanel and Sam first met in the Summer of 2007. A group of their mutual friends were headed out for a night on the town–and Sam was immediately drawn to Chanel. But Chanel describes their first meeting as “no fairytale” and “not love at first sight.” She did think Sam was the most hilarious person she had ever met but absolutely not “her type.” Sometimes, relationships take time. And throwing all those ideas of “our type” out the window. ;) So… although Sam and Chanel occasionally saw each other, they weren’t an official couple until two years later, in 2009.

A few things about their relationship… they love traveling, eating, grocery shopping and are passionate about all things Batman. Chanel makes it her personal mission to find the best cupcake bakery in every city she visits. She loves driving with Sam; him at the wheel, her in charge of the radio. She loves watching how excited Sam gets over sports, and she loves how he humours her love of music and concerts–not so much his thing. Sam wrote Chanel simply feels like “home” to him. One of their favourite songs as a couple is “Chicago” by Sufjan Stevens (SO good) and in response to “What’s unique to you as a couple?” Sam wrote: “She gets 80% of the bed, and I only get 20%.” Hahaha!

I had SO MUCH FUN photographing these two this morning. We had incredible locations: the rooftop of Chanel’s uncle’s apartment (with falling snowflakes! They turned to rain. But we had snow!) and then a tattoo shop called Sacred Heart. Chanel has quite a few tattoos (some of them gifts from Sam) and she wanted to capture the next one on camera. Such a cool idea. Sam & Chanel’s first dance song is going to be “Stay With You” by John Legend, so Chanel had the words “Stay With You” inked on her upper arm in Sam’s handwriting. Ahh so fun. After the new tattoo, it was back to the apartment for some fun with Christmas lights. Safe to say, Sam & Chanel’s October 2013 wedding at Brix Restaurant is going to be incredible. Many, many thanks to Tess & Adam for the referral.
