Almost two years ago, I started leading a ‘community group’ through our church every week at my home and Jason and Jamie started attending! Just a couple months after the community group began, Jamie was away with her basketball team for a weekend tournament in Victoria. Jason surprised her (it was Valentine’s Day after all!) by asking if she wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.
When Jamie emailed me a few weeks later asking if they could book me as their photographer for their UBC Alumni Centre Wedding, I was so thrilled. I never expect my friends to hire me as their photographer but when it happens, I’m crazy honoured. Over the last year, I have loved getting to know both of these amazing people better. To witness Jamie and Jason’s wedding day and be their photographer… I am truly grateful.
[Okay, time for some photos! There are over 100, because J & J are our friends and this is my blog so I can break all the rules. I’ll write more in between the photos below!]
When I arrived at Jamie’s apartment building, Jamie and her four bridesmaids were sitting around chatting in matching pink and white robes. Hair and makeup was finished with time to spare… so the girls were relaxed and excited for the day. Jamie read a card from Jason in the window light before getting dressed.
Jamie looked soooo radiant from the moment she stepped into her dress! I love how happy she looks in this photo (and basically every photo to follow from this day.)
An anxious Dad waits to see his daughter for the first time on her wedding day!
Jamie and Jason were married at Fleetwood Church in Surrey and on the way to the UBC Alumni Centre for their reception, we paused at Queen Elizabeth Park for photos. I love how the bridesmaids’ light grey/blue dresses complemented the groomsmens’ navy suits!
Jamie’s dress is amazing. I loved the unique mesh details on both the front and the back. A few moments before walking down the aisle, Jamie placed a photo of her father (who passed away 22 years ago) on her bouquet. I loved that Jamie’s dad’s photo was with the couple throughout the whole day.
Taking portraits of Jamie and Jason together was so fun. They were so dang happy and cute and just excited to get married after 15 months of planning and dreaming. And it showed.
Jamie. You’re so beautiful! As your sister Phoebe shared in her speech, “I don’t even know how Jason doesn’t get lost in your eyes all the time.” ;) Hah!
Before arriving for the reception at the UBC Alumni Centre, we made time for some additional portraits on the UBC campus. I love the natural setting we found at Queen Elizabeth Park mixed with the modern architecture of UBC.
(This is not some ‘new pose’ by me. Guests were arriving. Hahah.)
The UBC Alumni Centre was a stunning backdrop for Jamie and Jason’s reception. All of the natural light, the beautiful windows and light coloured chairs made the floral centrepieces pop!
Every guest went home with an individually potted succulent as a favour. Perfect ring shot opportunity…!
The dinner, the dessert, the wine, the music, the speeches, the slideshow, the dances… everything was perfect. I’m not just saying that… it was a perfect wedding day enjoyed by everyone. Jamie and Jason, I’m sure it was worth the wait. The loooooong wait. :)
For two people who were worried their First Dance was going to be awkward… you nailed it. (I told them, whatever you do, don’t start looking around at other people or whispering, ‘What do we do now?’ – I’ve seen it so many times. Just enjoy the moment!!) Their dance was amazing.
And finally, a late night snack to fuel for an evening of dancing!
