Alexa and Patrick have a love story that feels lifted out of a great romantic comedy flick. About ten years ago, Alexa and Patrick were introduced through a friend at their mutual high school. They liked spending time with each other, as friends, but nothing romantic sparked between them. Patrick is a year older, so after he graduated high school, he moved to Montreal for school and Alexa was still finishing high school.

A week before her graduation, Alexa was chatting with Patrick online and talking about her grad plans. Her and her boyfriend were no longer together, so she thought, “Why not ask Patrick if he wants to be my date as a friend?” Patrick was coming back to Vancouver for the summer, anyway, so he said “Sure!” (And turns out, he drove muuuuuch quicker across Canada than he had planned, skipping his leisurely road trip to be there for Alexa at graduation.)

They had a great time at the grad together and shared their first kiss later that evening. But after that one evening, they went back to a friendship–living in different cities over the next few years. About six years go by… (SIX years!) and Alexa’s boss mentions a restaurant in Whistler that Patrick was managing.

Alexa suddenly couldn’t get Patrick out of her mind! She looked him up on Facebook, made sure he was single (he was!) and then reconnected on Messenger. Through their small talk, Patrick mentioned he’d be down in Vancouver in a week or so and would Alexa like to meet? She was nervous! But they met up! And Alexa remembers walking into the restaurant and seeing Patrick after so many years and thinking, “This could be my husband.”  

They knew this was it for them quickly! They talked for hours that night, and started traveling back and forth between Vancouver and Whistler before Patrick made the move to the city. :) After a year and a half of dating, Patrick proposed with a custom ring in Maui on vacation with Alexa’s family. 

How greeeeeat is this?!

Alexa is also a planner with DreamGroup Productions, which is how we first met, last summer–at two weddings in the same month! She’s brilliant at her job, and when I saw she got engaged on Facebook I was so happy for her–but never dreamed out of ALL the photographers she knows, she’d picked me! So thank you, Alexa!
