Hello! My name is Jamie Delaine, and I’m a family photographer in Vancouver, BC. Over the last 15 years I’ve had the pleasure of photographing all around the beautiful city I call home—and I’ve put together a list of best family photo locations in Vancouver.
If you’re looking for natural, joyful family photos, I’d love to be your family photographer. Please feel free to reach out anytime to book a session!
Stanley Park
Stanley Park is a beautiful and diverse location for family photos, covering over 400 hectares of land. With its mix of forests, beaches, gardens, lakes, and more, it offers plenty of options for a variety of backdrops and settings. Personally, I prefer to photograph in the stunning forests of Stanley Park, the light is gorgeous! (It’s also more forgiving to mid-day sessions, which are sometimes necessary for kid’s nap schedules.)
Granville Island
With its lively atmosphere and unique surroundings, Granville Island is an ideal location for family photos. The public market, marina, and scenic walkways all provide opportunities for capturing unique and memorable family moments. From colourful and bustling to serene and peaceful, Granville Island has something for everyone!
Lynn Canyon Park
Lynn Canyon Park is a lush and natural setting for family photos, offering walking trails, a suspension bridge, and a beautiful waterfall. With its lush forests, quiet streams, and peaceful paths, Lynn Canyon Park provides a serene backdrop for family photos—if you don’t mind a little hiking (oh and crossing a suspension bridge to get to the best photo spots.)
Jericho Beach
Jericho Beach is a beautiful park and beach located along the western coast of Vancouver. With its expansive sandy beach and stunning views of the ocean and nearby mountains, this location is perfect for capturing special moments with your family. (Sessions must take place as sunset at this location, or in overcast weather.)
Yaletown
Yaletown is a historic neighbourhood located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. With its brick walls, charming architecture, and unique urban atmosphere, this location is perfect for a family photoshoot. I particularly love walking and exploring together for the best light around this walkable area.
Gastown
With its cobbled streets, quaint buildings, and charming atmosphere, Gastown is a historic neighbourhood that is stunning for family photos—if you’re feeling adventurous. (Gastown is not known as the cleanest area of Vancouver, and could be intimidating to younger kids.)
Pacific Spirit Regional Park
If you want to show off the beauty of the West Coast, Pacific Spirit Regional Park is one of my favourite options for family photos. This regional park is located in the western part of Vancouver and offers dense forests, rolling hills, and a peaceful atmosphere. Similarly to the forests of Stanley Park, the light is very forgiving in the forest when kids naps times simply don’t allow for sunrise or sunset photos.
Queen Elizabeth Park
Queen Elizabeth Park is a picturesque park that provides a range of options for family photos. Although the gardens in the center of the park are the main tourist attraction, it’s not a great location for photos. The pathways are often busy, extremely sunny, and overall—not a great option.
But at Queen Elizabeth Park, I love to photograph near the Celebration Pavilion, and many gorgeous green areas throughout the park that are a little more hidden. (I’ll show you where!)
