Dana and Darryl have such a perfect “meet-cute” story, it’s too long for me to summarize in a few sentences. Enjoy their Lynn Canyon Park Engagement Photos below, but not until you read this almost-too-hard-to-believe-it’s-real-life-and-not-a-rom-com-story first :) 

Back in 2017, Dana was in the middle of her PhD at SFU, and Darryl was about to start his own. Through mutual connections, they were introduced as potential roommates—and it quickly became clear they clicked. 

Shared humour, nerdy science jokes, and long nights spent watching TV shows and practicing presentations together turned their living situation into something much more meaningful over the three years they shared an apartment. What started as roommate life slowly evolved into something deeper. They both started to develop feelings for one another… but both were hesitant to make the first move. (They LIVED together, after all!) 

The turning point came during a summer vacation at Dana’s family cabin at Christina Lake. After a day of hikes, games, and reading, they set up a telescope to watch the Perseids Meteor Shower. 

In Dana’s words: “So there we were, everyone else was asleep, we were looking at the stars and watching a meteor shower when he admitted he had feelings for me – my dream come true! And yes how ridiculously corny our first kiss was under the stars, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. And yah, turns out all those dinners were not being made because he just liked to cook…”

Since then, they’ve been inseparable, building a partnership based on friendship, support, and shared adventures. Nearly five years later, their bond has only grown stronger, and now they’re planning a wedding to celebrate the team they’ve always been!
