Engagement Session

lafarge lake engagement: laura&kyle

the summer went by so fast. it was a complete whirlwind.

the month was june, the setting was a church baseball game. laura arrived late [super late] and kyle was walking to his car: happened to be parked beside hers. laura took note of this new face; kyle left. later that evening, after laura & her friends had been to sunday night church, they stopped for coffee and donuts at tim hortons. when a few more people walked in, laura recognized a face. it was kyle’s face [though apparently laura called him “kevin” most of that evening, having just met him.]

that night, laura went home & did what everybody loves to do when they meet someone cute and fun and interesting. facebook creep. she was interested. a few weeks passed, kyle and laura end up hanging with a group of people at a mutual friend’s house. laura specifically remembers overhearing kyle say, “ahhh i’m not looking for anyone. i like being single.” dang. that sucks. summer went on & they saw quite a bit of each other. when i was walking and talking with laura & kyle at their engagement session this week, they both smiled when they talked about manning park. kyle said, “that’s really where it all changed for me. that trip.”

their group of friends were renting a cabin for the weekend. laura was already out in the country visiting her mom, kyle was coming from closer to the city. friends had gone ahead. laura asked kyle if he wouldn’t mind picking her up on the way… it only made sense. why two cars? he agreed. laura chatted away nervously to her mom all morning until kyle came. talking, talking, talking about everything this guy is about: finishing every sentence or point or attribute with but i don’t like him. kyle knocked on the door & laura’s heart jumped. she felt something different.

they made the two hour drive together without any silence at all: life, friendships, the Lord, their [assumed individual] futures, everything. by the time they met up with their other friends, they both felt something had started in their hearts on that drive. kyle woke up before anybody else both mornings, to make coffee and enjoy the quiet. [i love the morning: this sounds like heaven to me.] kyle turned around the first morning, not even seven o ‘clock, and found laura standing there. oh, hello.

they talked for hours, it was the drive to the cabin all over again, but this time sitting in a tiny kitchen with coffee cups in hand. laura writes about that weekend: he took me on dirt bike rides through the mountains [& let me drive!], he told me i was an amazing woman while i was drying the dishes… but oh the way he looked at me. i have never had my breath taken away the way he did when he looked at me. he sat with me in the shade when i had too much sun, he helped me lift things, he made me feel things i had never felt before.

a few days pass, back to the normalcy of their lives, back from the cabin, back to their homes. kyle calls laura, takes her out for a smoothie before a movie with friends. kyle looked at beautiful laura, admitted he couldn’t stop thinking about her, there is no other girl that makes him feel the way she does. “wow,” laura wrote to me. laura felt the same. nothing was official yet. fast forward almost a month, laura now home from a trip to mexico [they, having both missed each other like crazy] — the two of them together again.

kyle came over that night. they committed the timing of this relationship & their relationship in its entirety to God. laura & kyle wanted to know in their hearts that they were “it” for each other before they made anything official. a week later, they were boyfriend and girlfriend. august 26, 2010. she was to be his, he was to be hers. kyle leaned over to laura, i know you’re it for me. let’s do this. can i kiss you? less than four months later, they were engaged on december 14.

i couldn’t be more excited to be a part of their wedding day.
