yesterday i met up with sophia & jamie for their engagement photos. i drove down a tree-lined vancouver street, admiring the row of century-old houses on either side. i found sophia’s address & walked up the stairs to knock on the door of her parent’s place. sophia’s familiar face walked across the original hard-wood floors from the kitchen to the front door to welcome me. it was not the first time sophia & i had met: we have a funny story. back in january, i had some time to spare before a vancouver engagement session and was reading a book at prado cafe: one of my most favourite coffee shops on commercial drive. the girl sitting in front of me turned around and said, “are you jamie? i read your blog.” i love that. sophia + i chatted for about ten minutes about prado, our love of coffee, our churches, her travels to uganda to intern with the watato children’s choir. after a while i went back to my book, she went back to her studies. well, six months later i got an email from sophia! she was engaged and she wanted me to photograph her wedding. craziness: i didn’t know i was talking to a future client. ;)
i am pretty excited about sophia & her fiance jamie’s june 30, 2012 wedding. meeting up with them yesterday felt like hanging out with old friends: i got to meet sophia’s mom and her sister before we headed out to commerical dr. for the shoot. of course, we had to start at prado where sophia + jamie spend a lot of time together [and where sophia + i met, haha, not that that’s relevant to their engagement photos.] after prado, we drove to trout lake to finish up with their second outfit. jamie mentioned this was the same order of events on their engagement day, may 27th. they grabbed coffee at prado cafe [with sophia’s mom!] and then headed to trout lake. it was absolutely pouring [and sophia can’t stand the feeling of rain falling on her head] but the ring had been burning a whole in jamie’s pocket for quite a few days now. he knew he needed to make sophia’s his, asap! so he did. and here are their photos:
Oooo, I LOVE this session, Jamie! The colors, the tones, their style, your captures. Perfect.
i love the warm tones & the feeling of fall in the air… so beautiful! the one of them sitting on the wooden pathway is stunning! :)
love these! random question by the way: when you’re shooting a session in a public place like prado, do you talk to the management/staff beforehand or just waltz in and shoot away? I’m often shy about pulling my camera out in public for fear of breaking some rule or privacy issue that I’m unaware of…
ang, we did speak with the manager the week before! :)
awesome – thanks! I just didn’t know how it all worked protocol-wise. :D
