Performance Works Wedding on Granville Island

Steph and Jacob’s wedding day was so much fun. One of my favourite things about this crazy career is seeing the incredible diversity of each gathering. Every bride and groom has a different love story, different upbringings, different interests and groups of friends.

Again and again, that was a common theme spoken by their family and friends – Jacob & Steph share a love of the outdoors, adventure, travel and new experiences. A cute little fact… the way Jacob found Steph’s profile online was by typing “Rock Climbing” into the search box. From the very beginning, their love of adventure has united them.

I also loved this tidbit – in Nancy’s speech (Maid of Honour) at the reception, she mentioned the first time she received an email written by Jacob, she literally thought Steph had written it. The way he organized his ideas, the extreme level of detail… it was a super cute part of her speech.

Steph & Jacob were very clear about one thing from the very beginning of their wedding photography – their family & friends mean the world to them. Their wedding was brought to life by the help of many loved ones – from their officiant (a friend of Steph’s,) to the caterer (Jacob’s Aunt!) and DIY decor by many handy-hands. One of my favourite moments of the day, was before the ceremony, Jacob & Steph saying, “We want as many of our family and friends captured as possible. We will be doing our thing at the front and of course we want vow photos, but mainly, we want to capture what we cannot see!”

It was a joy to meet all of Steph & Jacob’s friends and family and I can’t wait to show them the hundreds and hundreds of wedding images in a few weeks. (Until then, enjoy this blog post!)

Steph & Jacob opted against a diamond engagement ring… and took a trip to Vietnam together instead! Hence the two ring, ring shot. :)

I love when Steph suggested, “The house is a bit messy, let’s dress outdoors! I don’t mind!” Such beautiful light and a fun background.

Their First Look was wonderful. As soon as Steph tapped Jacob’s shoulder, he took a small peek, then walked forward, facing the other way again, as if he couldn’t take her all in at once. He composed himself and turned around and they wrapped into a hug.

In the middle of the dance floor is Elizabeth, Steph’s amazing mom! I have her to thank for being present at this wedding day! She was a guest at a wedding I photographed 5 years ago, her friend’s daughter. She remember my work and when Steph got engaged, told her to look up Jamie Delaine! Couldn’t be more grateful.
