I’ve loved taking on more and more family sessions over the last 5 years in my photography business. It’s really fun to see past wedding or engagement clients return for family photos–sometimes nearly a decade later!

I photographed Joel and Michele’s engagement session nearly nine years ago in Vancouver. And it was such an honour to photograph Joel and Michele again for an extended family session with Joel’s parents and Joel’s sister’s family.

For any type of outdoor portrait session, you can plan and plan and plan–but in the end, the weather is going to do what it wants. Joel and Michele don’t live locally, so the date wasn’t flexible, the session had to proceed rain or shine! I scouted some undercover options in the city for us, but when we arrived at 9:00am there was a tiny bit of sun peaking out–despite the 90% chance of rain forecast. 

So glad the rain held off, because I love these cozy winter portraits of their family. (Don’t be fooled: it was cold, cold, cold. They just made it look easy!)
