Capturing family photos are soooo rewarding for me as a photographer. I think it’s a combination of “anything could happen” (especially with multiple children) and generally low expectations from parents/clients. My clients know “theoretically” that I have the ability to capture great family photos, but when your toddler refuses to let go of an obnoxiously-coloured toy without bursting into tears, I could imagine you start to doubt the practicalities of capturing great family photos.
But yet! With a little time and patience and silliness, we can create great family photos despite any chaos your home may throw our way. There was nothing particularly chaotic about this shoot at all, but it’s rewarding to see the end result after an hour and a half of photographing where the clients are definitely thinking “Is she getting anything good?” and I’m thinking “Well, I know I’m getting some good photos, but I wonder how many…” It’s never boring; and always a challenge I’m up for.
All that being said, here are Rebecca and Greg’s photos with their second baby boy! (I took their family/maternity photos one month before.)
