Engagement Session

point grey engagement: veronica&henry

i love awkward. i do. i love those stories, i thought she was into me, but then i wasn’t sure, and i didn’t want to assume, so i played it cool. and, i thought HE was into me, seemed to be pursuing, but i wasn’t sure, because all of a sudden he backed off, ignored me half the time. it’s awkward. sometimes the beginning of a dating relationship can make for a pretty funny story. ;) veronica and henry have one of those stories. they met in high school, but never really knew each other, just knew of one another through high school sports. henry is a couple of years older than veronica, which made their friend groups completely different. after high school, they found themselves at the same university and sports brought them together once again.

it was at an intramural volleyball game that veronica spotted henry across the room. in her words, i waved at him, he ignored at me [literally pretended that he didn’t see me.] then he messaged me online and asked if i had waved at him. he was really, really shy i learned quite quickly. now, this is my favourite part. the other side of the story. especially being a girl, we always have a one-sided perspective. when you look back, you get to hear both sides. henry writes, i made eye contact with this girl and she was waving at me wildly. she looked like Veronica but i wasn’t sure. i have a fear of making mistakes with faces/names so i pretended like i didn’t see her. later that afternoon i went online and asked if it was her… she thought I was the biggest loser for not saying hi. well, apparently not TOO much of a loser, henry! because these two started hanging out with a mutual friend.

the first hang-out was at tim horton’s. so good. nice and casual. after the night, henry called veronica up. they talked on the phone for a few hours. henry gave no reason for calling, just, hey. it’s henry. [oh, blog readers, i’m reading farther into their questionnaire and i just laughed out loud. this is so great. i love these two.] one night in the spring, veronica was studying and henry drove all the way from UBC [farthest corner of vancouver pretty much] just to bring her a coffee. but he didn’t stay. he opened the door, dropped off the coffee and said, have a good night. henry reflects, i think veronica knew i was interested cause i drove all the way! i would call her later and act like everything was normal… she thought i was very awkward.

the next step in this whole let’s-be-in-a-relationship thing is actually asking the girl. i love this part of the story. veronica & henry hung out for the entire summer and veronica’s friends were starting to wonder about the whole thing. [staring to wonder? they are girls. they talked! ha!] henry says that she knew i was interested but i had never come right out and said it. i guess it’s part of my personality to keep things to myself and to keep her guessing. — hahaha, waiting and guessing is the worst. ;) it was one summer evening, the two drove to the beach and henry officially asked veronica to be his girlfriend. the kicker? veronica was super upset with henry because he took his freaking time (the entire summer) to ask that question. veronica flipped the script on him and asked for five reasons why she should be his girlfriend. henry writes, i was more caught up on the fact that i had to give her five reasons (who asks for five reasons?) — that i kissed her five times and she said yes!

i love it. i love it all. i also think this was one of the funniest hours i’ve had in the past week. we were blessed with ridiculously amazing weather. i will see you two in JULY! :)
