I had the pleasure of first meeting Mikaela at a photographer’s get-together at my previous studio space in 2011. She was one of the local industry “online friends” I invited to critique as I rehearsed my two hour talk for an upcoming photography conference. Since then, we’ve met a couple times in groups and along the way, starting meeting for coffee and/or work dates ourselves between Langley (my home) and Abbotsford (her home!)

I have been following Mikaela’s blog for a couple years and thereby, following her relationship with Shane. They were engaged a couple summers ago (a few months after we met, really) and had a three and a half month engagement before an October wedding. When I saw Mikaela a few weeks after Randy & I got engaged, she asked how everything was going. I said, Good! But we only have four months! She told me they had less than four months. It gave me hope. Hah! And look at us both now – beautiful weddings planned and both with awesome men.

Mikaela is a fellow wedding photographer (she also took my new website promo images!) and Shane runs CheddarBooth (as well as plenty of other ventures.) We had quickly met while working Patrick & Nicole’s Shangri-La Wedding last October however, Monday night was the first time all of us had hung out together. Mikaela and Shane are expecting their first baby on August 1st (THAT’S MY BIRTHDAY) and also in a crazy season of building a home across the border in Sumas, WA. Safe to say, they have a lot going on. For their maternity session, Randy came with me and afterwards the four of us drove to Fort Langley and talked until after dusk over coffee.
