when calla and i “met” this past tuesday for her & jon’s engagement session, we knew it wasn’t the first time we had met–but neither of us could remember. i played baseball for years growing up, starting with good ol’ T-ball, moving into a YMCA league and eventually ended up in a fast-pitch softball league. calla’s mom was my coach and calla’s younger sister was on my team. i’m terrible with remembering faces [calla as well] even though her mom insisted, you must remember! you have the same smiley eyes!! regardless, it was lovely to hug calla again and see her face–immediately recognizing her as the guestbook-table girl from tess & adam’s wedding. equally as wonderful to meet her handsome fiance, jon.

jon & calla have a unique love story–though i’ve yet to meet a love story that wasn’t unique in some way. calla was raised in canada–and recently finished her teaching degree in langley. jon was born in jamaica, immigrated to the united states and is currently stationed in the army in north carolina. these two met online–calla and her friends happened to sign up for a website one day. calla talked to a few guys including one message to jon and then decided to close her account. they were doing it for fun anyway–who finds their husband online? calla dated another guy for a few months and that ended–so she messaged jon again. they started talking, met for the first time eight months ago, have been traveling back and forth ever since.

jon flew in last week, completely unbeknownst to calla–but her family knew, and waited at the end of a pier for the big proposal moment. calla and her family walked down the pier–calla saw jon, and jon popped the question. boom! engaged. i was so excited to be able to fit in an engagement session with these two on tuesday. jon is on his way back to north carolina by now–and is waiting to hear for sure, but will most likely be deployed to afghanistan for 12 months come october. thanks again you guys! enjoy!
