Our Love Story
nearing the conclusion of an exhausting summer wedding season, it’s extra important to only work with couples you absolutely adore… and i adore howard & olivia. i loved every minute of howard & olivia’s wedding day on september 3, 2011 at brock house restaurant. olivia has been living in shanghai since she graduated high school in vancouver years ago. howard is originally from san diego but has been at oxford university for the past year studying in a pastoral leadership program. thankfully olivia & howard have a beautiful friend named holly who acted as the main wedding planner and point of contact here in vancouver with all of their wedding vendors.
i met these two engaged folk for coffee at prado cafe thursday afternoon for the first time. as we talked over the fabulous coffee at prado, we simply talked about Christ. we talked about Jesus, what he had done in our lives individually, what he had done in the relationship of olivia & howard and the lives of their family members. we talked about future ministry dreams… and then we talked a little bit about their wedding. but mainly about Jesus.
it was such a gift to hear their love story: introduced by a mutual friend at church one day. after a conversation, howard invited olivia to lunch. their conversation lasted five hours. i love what olivia writes, i remember thinking how comfortable it was to talk to howard about anything and everything, it was as if we had known each other for years. i was amazed that we had not met earlier considering we had both moved to hong kong around the same time & had been going to the same church. looking back, i know that God had a plan and only allowed us to meet after we grew in our own walk with Him. howard writes about that first lunch-date. i wanted to ask olivia out again, but wanted to keep things low-key so i wouldn’t scare her away. this time i suggested a ‘casual’ dinner and she accepted. our dinner was followed with a few more ‘dates’ & i began to see the amazing woman God had brought into my life. after just one week, we prayed and committed to a serious relationship – i felt i had to move fast so she wouldn’t change her mind!
she didn’t change her mind, howard. ;) and on saturday, i got to witness olivia & howard make Jesus Christ the absolute center of their celebration, their lives and their marriage. i left encouraged, inspired, hopeful & so blessed. that’s a good wedding right there. thank you so much olivia and howard, for inviting me to be a part of it. i honestly couldn’t be more excited for the future God has for your lives.
